2026 Quilt Square Contest Rules

Quilt square entries will be displayed during the Lunenburg Maple Festival on March 21st and a “People’s Choice” award will be given in each category. Later, the blocks will be made into a quilt and/or other items which will be raffled at the 2027 Maple Festival.

There are only a few "rules" to follow:

           1. Create a 13-inch square quilt block which features a “Springtime in Vermont” theme within the 12-inch square area. (The half-inch on all edges provides a seam allowance.)
           2. Please, only one entry per participant.
           3. Create the block from 100% cotton material.
           4. Any quilt pattern, applique block or pieced block, hand or machine stitched, may be submitted.
          5. The entry will be placed in one of two categories: appliqué block or pieced block. The appliqué block category will include entries that use a 13-inch square of material to which another fabric has been added. The pieced block category will include entries that use pieces of material to create a 13-inch square.
           6. The completed block is due
March 16, 2026.
           7. The block, along with the owner’s name, age, address, and phone number, may be mailed to The Town of Lunenburg Historical Society, P.O. Box 195, Lunenburg, Vermont, 05906, left with the
librarian at Lunenburg’s Alden Balch Memorial Library or at the Lunenburg Town Clerk’s Office.
           8. All blocks submitted by adult entrants will become the property of The Town of Lunenburg Historical Society. Pieces by youth will be kept by permission only.
