What is this "Grub on the Green"?

It's a community potluck-format gathering on the Lunenburg Common with live music by local musicians. The first community meal on the Common was held in October of 2009, provided by the Top of the Common Committee as a "thank you" and community celebration of the incredible two-year volunteer-driven restoration of the Congregational Church building steeple.
That very day it was fondly given the "Grub on the Green" title and community members asked, "You're going to do this again next year, aren't you?" We really had not considered that, but were willing to give it a go. The next year it took on a potluck meal format and sure enough, the "Grub" was well attended. It annually has become an enjoyable time to sit with neighbors, play some games, listen, as well as sing along with and/or dance to the live music, and choose from some amazing meal options!

Who is the Grub on the Green for?
Everyone!
Residents of Lunenburg, Gilman, and neighboring towns, visitors to the area, those passing through on their way somewhere else. Really everyone.

Does it cost anything to attend?

Like with any potluck meal, those attending are asked to bring, if they can, some food of their choice to share. That could be a main dish (like a crockpot of pea soup), a side dish (like a salad) or a combination of both (some deviled eggs and a jar of pickles). If you don't like to cook or don't have the time, you can contribute to the grilled hotdogs with buns offered by the Top of the Common Committee (just contact us before the event at the emails or phone number at the bottom of this page and we'll tell you how!)

There will be electrical outlets for crockpots and paper goods, hot and cold beverages, and desserts will be provided. This year Friends from Lancaster Open-Mic will be providing the music. (Many are familiar musicians from our Open-Mic!)

What should I bring besides food?
Bring a lawn chair if you'd like. Three picnic tables, plus additional tables and chairs will be provided. Yard games (Jenga, Connect Four, Yahtzee) and some table top ones will be available. Feel free to bring along any additional ones you'd like. This year the town Art Cart will also be available to explore and enjoy.
